My name is Zoe Gillings and I am professional snowboarder from the UK. I have been competing at the top level for about ten years and have competed in two Olympics and three World championships with my best results being first place at the World Cup in Chile, several further World Cup Podiums including third place at the World Cup finals in 2011 and eighth place at the Winter Olympics in 2010. I was invited by NETELLER to attend their VIP member party at the ice bar in London in November. During the event I was racing people on a Nintendo Wii snowboard racing game we set up in the bar. I had plenty of challengers so it was a fun night; I think pretty much every single person at the event gave it a go, which was great. There are a few differences between racing on the Wii and racing on the World Cup circuit, with the biggest one being that there were no 15 foot jumps to clear in the ice bar! But there were some real similarities too! Even though it was just for fun, I and quite a few others got very competitive (I get competitive with everything of course!). There were prizes for the winners of the fastest and slowest times of the night, and as we were in the ice bar it was -5 degrees Celsius so just the right temperature for a snowboarding competition!  It was a fantastic night and loads of fun.

I am competing all around the world through the winter but one special competition for me that I have attended a few times before is the prestigious invite only Winter X Games competition at the end of January. For those of you who haven’t heard of the X Games, it’s like the North American version of the Olympics for action sports. In the Winter X Games they have snowboarding, skiing, snowmobile racing and more. It’s held in Aspen, Colorado each year and is always a fun one to go to because with all the different sport there’s always something going on. ESPN usually covers the event, continuously broadcasting in HD, and the resultant footage is awesome.  My best result at the X Games so far has been 6^th place but I am hoping to get on the podium this year.
